In the 1960s, Cologne artist Mary Bauermeister created works that were at once images and musical scores. In Needless, Needles, Carla Jordão takes Bauermeister’s graphic score of the same name (1964) and translates it into a dance solo. The piece is both an interpretation of the image and a reflection on the act of translation itself: how a score from the visual arts becomes material for contemporary dance and performance. The original score is on view for the audience.
